Independence in Action: Supporting Resilience Through Play

Welcome to another edition of Toddler Tuesdays! Toddlers love to do things all by themselves! Whether it’s pouring, stacking, inserting, or sliding, giving them the freedom to explore and play independently builds confidence, focus, and problem-solving skills. The key to fostering independent play? Set up an inviting space with activities that match their interests and abilities. Choose materials they can manipulate on their own, explore freely, and come back to again and again. And when you introduce something new, no need to over-explain—just let them dive in and discover!

Toddlers LOVE dropping things into boxes! Our Inserting and Dropping Box builds fine motor skills and keeps little hands busy. And our Sliding Box provides peekaboo fun with a purpose! Drop an object in, slide the top, and—ta-da!—it reappears. It’s a simple, magical way to teach object permanence and build focus.

An uninterrupted work cycle helps toddlers develop concentration and independence. Whether they’re fitting objects into slots, practicing pouring, or buttoning their own coat, every little task builds important skills. Montessori is all about trusting children to learn through hands-on experiences. By giving them open-ended, natural materials that mimic real life, we help them grow into curious, confident, and capable little humans.

Here’s to independent play, big discoveries, and even bigger milestones!
